FAQ - Updating KYC documents
I received a communication to submit KYC documents for my Credit Card/Bank Account. Why is this required?
As per Reserve Bank of India's KYC Master Direction*, banks are required to ensure that information on customers as part of the customer due diligence process is kept up-to-date. This includes the identity and address related information.
Accordingly, if you have received a communication stating that your KYC is due, you will need to provide the required documents to complete this.
Please refer the section - "What documents do I need to submit?" for the documents you need to submit and "Process for updating KYC documents with Citi" for the process to update the documents.
*RBI/DBR/2015-16/18 Master Direction BR.AML.BC.No.81/14.01.001/2015-16, dated February 25, 2016 and updated as on April 20, 2018 and updated from time to time.
What documents do I need to submit?
- Resident individuals
- Non-resident individuals
Submit your recent photograph along with self-attested copy of any one of the below mentioned document for proof of identity and proof of address.
- Passport (ID and address proof)
- Driving License (ID and address proof)
- Voter's Identity Card issued by the Election Commission of India (ID and address proof)
- Job Card issued by NREGA duly signed by an officer of the State Government (ID and address proof)
- Proof of possession of Aadhaar number, i.e. Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar* (ID and Address Proof)
- National Population Register (containing details of name and address)
Please note: While submitting the KYC documents, please ensure that the address mentioned in your submitted address proof matches with the address updated in your bank records.
To check the address maintained in Citibank records please login to Citibank Online and navigate to View Contact Details -> Enter OTP or check your latest Bank or Credit Card Statement.
**By submitting a copy of your Aadhaar Card to Citibank, you confirm and agree that the Bank has duly explained to you that submission of Aadhaar Card is no longer mandatory and you have the option to submit any one of the above documents towards submission of KYC / proof of address document.
- You are providing your Aadhaar card as an officially valid document proof to Citibank voluntarily and hereby authorize Citibank to use your Aadhaar as proof of address/KYC document in accordance with extant rules and regulations.
- In case you are submitting/uploading copy of your Aadhaar card, make sure to blacken out the first 8 digits of Aadhaar number so that they are not visible. Please also ensure that the last four digits are visible on the Aadhaar card before submitting/uploading, in the absence of which Citibank will reject the Aadhaar document.
Notes
- Utility bill is not an acceptable KYC document for this purpose
- Account number(s) should be mentioned on the document(s) submitted by you
- Self-attested document(s) need to be submitted for all the holders (including mandate holder) maintained on the account
- The identity details captured on the documents submitted by you would be updated in our records, if they are found to be different from our existing records
- By submitting these documents, you confirm that address details mentioned on the document are correct and current
- In case of change in address, please submit a letter mentioning your current mailing address, along with a signed copy of proof of address for the same as per the list of documents mentioned above.Kindly note, request for change of address will NOT be accepted on email.
- If you have a mandate holder / add-on debit cardholder on your account, please also submit copies of proof of identity and address, self-attested by them, as per the list of documents mentioned above.
Submit your recent photograph along with self-attested copy of valid Passport and address proof (for the address maintained on the bank records) as per the below list of documents.
- Valid Driving license containing address (Address proof)
- Valid Passport containing address (Address proof)
- Documents issued by Government departments of foreign jurisdictions containing address on it
- Letter issued by Foreign Embassy / Mission in India mentioning address (acceptable as address proof only if you hold foreign passport)
Notes

How to submit a masked Aadhar?
You can also download a masked Aadhar by following the below steps:
Step 1: Visit ‘UIDAI Website’ and login using your Aadhar number and OTP.
Step 2: Click on Download Aadhar option from the list of options.
Step 3: Select the option to download “Masked Aadhar” and click on Download.
Step 4: Take a screenshot of this masked Aadhar to submit as an identity/address proof.
Process for updating KYC documents with Citi
You can easily do so by:
- Using the Citi Mobile India app and instantly upload your recent photograph and documents via 'Document Upload' option in the main menu.
- Logging in to Citibank Online and instantly submitting your recent photograph documents using 'Submit Documents' option under the banking tab. Click here to upload.
- Emailing self-attested scans of the document to mykycdocuments@citi.com (for NRI customers. File size < 2MB required).
Please note:
For KYC process to be complete, PLEASE UPLOAD BOTH DOCUMENT AND PHOTOGRAPH.
- When updating using Citibank Online, after uploading your KYC document, please select ‘KYC Photograph Submission’ from Submit Document menu on left hand panel and upload your photograph as well. Alternatively you may scan the photograph together as a single file along with your KYC document (total file size should not exceed 2 MB).
- When updating using Citi Mobile app, after uploading your KYC document, please select ‘KYC Photograph Submission’ from the Document Type menu dropdown and upload your photograph as well. Alternatively you may scan the photograph together as a single file along with your KYC document (total file size should not exceed 2 MB).
Standalone Personal Loan and Home Loan customers, please refer to the below section:
For Standalone Personal Loan customers (i.e. no other Citi relationship),
- Click here to upload the documents on Citibank Online with your Internet PIN (IPIN). Select the purpose of upload as ‘KYC Document Submission’.
For Standalone Home Loan customers (i.e. no other Citi relationship),
Email scanned copies of your self-attested KYC documents to mortgagekyc@citi.com from your registered email-id. The attachment size should not exceed 2 MB. OR Send the documents through courier to Citibank Mailroom - "Citibank N.A., Mail Room, ACROPOLIS, 9th Floor, New Door No.148 (Old No.68), Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore, Chennai - 600 004". OR through ordinary post to "Citibank N.A., P.O. Box No. 4830, Anna Salai Post Office, Chennai - 600 002.
If you have multiple relationships with Citibank and you have KYC due on more than one of your relationships, please submit your KYC documents for ANY of your relationships to be marked 'KYC compliant' for your account. To check all your linked relationships with Citibank, please refer to the 'Account Summary' section in Citibank Online or the post login screen in the Mobile Banking Application.
Don’t have access to Citibank Online or the Citi Mobile app?
- Visit citibank.co.in and Click on ‘First Time User? Register Now’ to get your User ID and Internet IPIN (IPIN), in case you don’t have access to Citibank Online.
- Forgot your User ID or Internet Password? To retrieve it in 3 steps online, visit citibank.co.in and click on ‘Forgot User Id/Password'
Citi Mobile App is available on both android & iOS platforms. Alternatively, you can SMS ‘MBANK’ to 52484 or +91 9880752484 and we will send you a link to download the app.
The Citi Mobile India app is currently available for download in the app store/Google play store of the following countries - India, US, UK, UAE, Australia & Singapore.
Checking status of your KYC update
You will receive a confirmation once your KYC is updated. In case we require any additional details we will get in touch on your registered mobile number or e-mail ID.
To enable us to process your KYC documents in the shortest possible time, please ensure that-
- If you have submitted Passport/ Driver’s License/ NREGA card, please ensure that the same is valid and not expired.
- If you have submitted any of the Officially Valid Document (OVD) and your address as per the same is not your current address and different from the address for your Citibank account, kindly refer to the question "What documents do I need to submit?" for the list of OVD.
If we need further information, we will get in touch on your registered mobile number or e mail. Due to huge volumes, our processing time is high, but as we complete your KYC updation, we will inform you on your registered mobile/e-mail.
My Credit Card/Bank Account/online Citibank login is blocked. How can I unblock it?

I am an NRI and my Bank Account/online Citibank login is blocked. How can I unblock it?
Please submit the documents as specified in the section "What documents do I need to submit?"
To submit the documents, please use the below:
- Using the Citi Mobile India app and instantly upload documents via 'Document Upload' option in the main menu
- Logging in to Citibank Online and instantly submitting documents using 'Submit Documents' option under the banking tab. Click here to upload.

My Credit Card/Bank Account/online Citibank login is blocked, will Standing Instructions on my card/account be impacted?
Yes. In case you did not submit KYC documents by the specified deadline and the card/account gets blocked, any standing instructions, including but not limited to insurance payments, bill payments, mutual funds etc, will get dishonored. Do note, you would have also received an SMS alert and/or Email informing you of this impact.
I have submitted KYC documents but still receive communications to update it. Is resubmission required?
No. You would receive an immediate acknowledgement of receipt once you update your KYC. However, you may continue to receive messages post submission till we update our records. We are in the process of validating documents for all our customers and updating our systems and you will receive confirmation once we finish updating your KYC. In case we require any additional details we will get in touch on your registered mobile number or e-mail ID.
I have received a communication stating that my KYC update was rejected. What do I do?
The reject reason(s) will be specified as part of the rejection communication sent to you. We request you to follow the steps outlined in the communication for updating KYC and we will update your account as KYC compliant.
You are advised to submit your documents immediately to facilitate the unblocking process. Please refer to the sections - "What documents do I need to submit?" and “Process for updating KYC documents with Citi” for the documents required and submission process respectively.
