Open salary account


  • Any individual who is employed, normally has an account where his or her salary is credited every month. There are of course, several establishments that choose to pay salaries differently, but by and large, employees get their salaries credited to their bank accounts.
  • Salary Account can be defined as a bank account in which your salary is transferred or credited by your employer every month. They are opened by an employer with a bank for each of their employees. There are instances where the bank allows individuals to open salary accounts on their own – but they need some proof of employment from the company where the person works.
  • Several banks in India offer salary accounts to salaried employees. Of these, the Citibank Suvidha Salary Account is considered one of the most sought after in the country today (paisabazaar rankings, 2020).
Eligibility for a Salary Account
  • Every bank has a set eligibility criteria to open Salary accounts. They differ from bank to bank, but in general, most banks look for the following –
  • An employed individual as opposed to self-employed, who needs an account where his or her salary can get credited every month.
  • Some banks also specify the salary range that qualifies for an account in their establishments.

Required Documentation
  • To open a Citibank Suvidha Salary Account, you will need –
  • Two latest passport size photographs
  • Proof of Address and Identity
  • The documents that are acceptable as proof for these two include –
  • Proof of Possession of Aadhaar number (i.e. Aadhaar Card/e-Aadhaar)*
  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • Voters ID Card (Issued by Election Commission of India)
  • Job Card by NREGA duly signed by an officer of the state Government
  • Letter issued by National Population Registry confirming details of Name, Address
*By submitting a copy of your Proof of Possession of Aadhaar Number, containing Aadhaar number, you confirm and agree that the Bank has duly explained to you that submission of Proof of Possession of Aadhaar number is not mandatory and you have the option to submit any one of the documents as per the list of Officially Valid Documents (updated by the RBI from time to time) towards submission of KYC/proof of address documents. If you provide such Proof of Possession of Aadhaar number containing your Aadhaar number, you note that
  • You are providing the same as an officially valid document voluntarily in accordance with extant rules and regulations;
  • You are required to redact/blacken out the first eight digits of Aadhaar number such that only last four digits of the Aadhaar number are visible; and
  • In case you do not redact/blacken out the first eight digits of Aadhaar number, it shall be deemed that you have authorized Citibank to redact/blacken out the same on your behalf.
