When there is an excess credit balance on your Citi credit card, the card account balance will reflect as
a negative balance.
The excess credit balance could be due to multiple reasons, such as:
- Receiving refund by a merchant
post bill
payment (e.g., flight tickets getting cancelled by airlines during the pandemic)
- Making duplicate manual payments
or
making both manual and automatic payments (e.g., when customers forget about recurring instructions
with a third party); or
- Erroneously entering the wrong
payment
amount.
If no action is taken, this excess balance gets adjusted against future purchases on your card account.
To claim a refund of the excess balance or to transfer the excess balance to another linked Citi Credit
Card or linked Citibank account, please contact our 24*7 CitiPhone helpline on 1860 210 2484 (within
India) or +91 22 4955 2484 (from outside of India). The credit to your account may take up to 3 working
days from the time of refund initiation.
Points to note:
-
IMPS/NEFT
- For payments made via IMPS/NEFT
from your bank account, refund can be initiated to the source account from which the payment
was made.
- For payments made via IMPS/NEFT
from a third-party app (TPA), refund can be initiated to your bank/source account. For this
we would require the following details:
- Your Name
- Bank Name
- Bank Account Number
- Bank IFSC Code
- Account type
- Debit proof of the
source account that was used to fund the third-party application
- Other modes of payment –
Refund may be processed post internal checks. For payment modes other than IMPS/NEFT/RTGS, we would
mandatorily require details of debit proof/source of payment.
